With four years to 2022 polls, Deputy President William Ruto has assembled strategic teams to push for his bid virtually throughout the country.
Largely, Ruto is using elected leaders from across the political divide.
In his strategy, Ruto has not spared Gusii region l, with an estimated voting population of 1 million and which has traditionally backed Raila Odinga.
While his campaign team has largely concentrated on youths among them Antony Kibagendi and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, Ruto has however maintained his faith in seasoned allies despite their opposition affiliation.
The last three months alone, Ruto has toured Nyamira and Kisii Counties six times combined and the two, Joash Maangi and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka have been integral in his tours.
Incidentally, the two are known to be seasoned political party hoppers but in all circumstances, they have survived the storm.
Months before 2017 polls, Maangi, the Kisii County Deputy Governor, joined Jubilee and even declared Kisii gubernatorial interest in the party.
But weeks later, he rescinded his decision and rejoined Governor James Ongwae (ODM) before securing their second term.
His hot and cold relationship with ODM and Jubilee have portrayed him as a 'political scavenger'.
Not left behind is Onyonka, once nicknamed 'master of defections'.
Elected first in 2007, Onyonka would later retain his seat in 2013 on ODM party.
After around three years, he openly campaigned for President Uhuru Kenyatta and when his plans backfired, he went back to Raila to ask for forgiveness.
Months to 2017 polls, Onyonka yet again ditched ODM for Ford Kenya and would successfully retain his seat in November.
And now working in Ruto's Kitchen Cabinet, their consistency could be under surveillance. Whether they will deliver or not, time will tell.
