In his best-selling book "Dreams from my Father", Barrack Obama recounts the morning he received a grim call informing him of the death of his father.
He had been living at a New York block and was a student at the time when the call from a person he described as a stranger came through.
Barry, as his friends fondly called, was in the process of making himself breakfast when his roommate gave him the phone.
It was aunt Jane calling.
"Aunt Jane. Listen, Barry, your father is dead. He is killed in a car accident. Hello? Can you hear me? I say your father is dead. Barry, please call your uncle in Boston and tell him. I can't talk now, okay. Barry, I will try to call you again," Obama's aunt said.
The world came to a standstill after the call and his mind went blank not knowing what to make of the grim news.
Obama Sr. had been involved in a road crash that took away his life.
