Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has said that Narok Governor Joshphat Nanok was one of the issues that formed the agenda of the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday.
Speaking during the second and last day of the retreat in Nakuru, Friday, he confirmed that the council indeed kicked Nanok out of office in his former Party Deputy Chair capacity.
The position will henceforth be held by Loima MP Jeremiah Lomorukai.
He based the decision on Nanok's dalliance with Deputy President William Ruto, which has seen the county boss pledge support for Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
According to Sifuna, this is a demonstration that he has ditched the party, hence the party's response.
"It is true that yesterday Honorable Omorkai, the Member of Parliament for Loima accepted to take up the responsibility of the Vice Chair to replace Governor Nanok who has expressed intentions to join another team," he said.
He said that the plan is as well to prove to the nation that the party remains preferred and attractive in Turkana county despite the said exit of the second term county boss.
The former Nairobi senatorial aspirant noted that the party also intended to seal the gap left by Nanok, as it seeks to better the services delivered to its members.
"Part of the discussion yesterday was the functioning and structure of organs of the party and their propriety in terms of the service to the members of the party.
We are happy that the National Executive Council was able to resolve that position so that we demonstrate that really, in Turkana, ODM is still the go-to party," he added.
