Residents of Githioro Ward in Kipipiri Sub-County in Nyandarua are counting losses following a landslide that hit the area on Friday.
This is as a result of the heavy rains pounding the area, according to Nyanduarua County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich.
He said that the incident displaced tens of families and completely destroyed at least 10 houses and partially destroyed several others.
County Executive Member for Disaster Management Ndungu Wangenye also confirmed the landslides, saying that 50 people have been rendered homeless.
The CeC said that the county leadership has embarked on rescue services, in a bid to bring all residents to safety.
"We are traversing the affected area to help rescue the affected families. However, no casualties have been reported," he said.
Residents said that they have since moved to higher grounds to avoid the floodwaters, confirming that they are safe.
"We are all safe. We have since moved to higher grounds despite our property being destroyed," said James Mugo, a resident.
Jane Muthoni, another resident said the floods swept away livestock, including five herds of cattle, as well as houses.
The heavy rains were reportedly accompanied by lightning, according to the residents.
