This is actually a long holiday for the children after a year of studying.

This festive season should be a stress-free season because all you need to do is hangout around Nakuru with your family and friends to get a relaxed and enjoyable season.

Here are five places in Nakuru to visit this festive season:     

 1. HYRAX HILL

The hill was named after hyraxes which are found in abundance, living in cracks within rocks found in this area.

A pre-historic walk at Hyrax Hill Museum is a good way to spend your holiday. Hyrax hill depicts the lifestyle of seasonal settlement by prehistoric people at least 3,000 years old. Have a nature walk around numerous sites that capture the different time periods with the earlier findings dating back to the Neolithic period.

This walk is a good way to learn the early settlement in Kenya and the Great Rift Valley.

2. MENENGAI CRATER

Menengai Crater is located 10 kilometers North of Nakuru town in the Great Rift Valley. It is among the largest surviving volcanic crater in the world, with a surface area of 90 sq km.

It is a perfect spot for hiking; you climb the walls of the crater via the long stretch of murram road strewn with huge gravel to a roadblock manned by several Kenya Forest Service officers.

You have to pay at least Sh200 to be allowed to visit the crater. After you pay you will be allowed in to enjoy the magical view of this creator. Carry packed lunch and have a merry time exploring the crater.

3. LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

How about outdoor dining in the most beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park? Pack your picnic blanket, delicious snacks and drinks, and head to the park. Hippo point at Bahaini Spring and it is a favorite spot for a picnic. 

4. KARIANDUSI MUSEUM

It is situated 2km to the east of Lake Elementaita in Nakuru County. It is one of the African early age stone sites and dates about one millions years back.

Louis Leakey is the founder of this site and discovered it in 1928.

Leakey made two more trips to the site that is, 1931 and 1946 for more research.

5. NYAMA CHOMA 

Treat your family and friends to delicious steak popularly known as nyama choma and Ugali. There are several distinct steakhouses in Nakuru.

You can also travel to Kikopey along Nakuru-Nairobi highway which is famed to its mouth-watering goat steaks.
