Kisii County Governor James Ongwae on Thursday met with the new US envoy to Kenya Ambassador Kyle McCarter.
Ongwae met the envoy at the US embassy in Nairobi. The county boss said during the meeting they deliberated on a number of bilateral issues touching on development.
"My mission to the embassy today put the focus on the revival of the dead pyrethrum sector. Kisii used to be Kenya's number one pyrethrum producer. I am making efforts to have our people back to pyrethrum farming again," he wrote on his Facebook page.
He added; "I am happy the American people are ready to stand with us on this and as a county we are going to mobilize resources to get our pyrethrum farmers back to work. Am glad Ambassador Kyle has promised to get potential investors to help us unlock our potential in pyrethrum farming and enjoy the ready market in the United States."
Ongwae expressed gratitude to the efforts made by the United States to support young people in Kisii to initiate start-up projects coordinated by the World Vision in partnership with "Yes Youth Can" a local organisation.
