In the 2010 edition, Ruto had opposed the referendum while Raila, who was leading the pro-change team, had insisted that the 20 per cent controversial issues would be revisited.

"Raila was very clear that not every section of the constitution was okay. He had hinted of possibility to change it in the near fear.

"It would have paradoxical if he opposed the changes. Basically, Raila and ODM would have questioned his sincerity," said Mr. Mohammed.

At a church function on Sunday, Ruto however asked proponents of the changes to desist from creating more posts for politicians.

The DP, whose latest move shocked his rivals, added that he will however continue executing his mandate.

"Let them draft the changes but remain factual. On our side, we shall continue serving the people," he said.

When Raila first introduced the referendum calls, the DP opposed it on the pretext that the nation is not ready for another political duel.
