Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday presided over the  2nd edition of a chicken auction at Kambi Kuku, in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking during the event, the DP called on residents to join cooperatives and rear chicken for nutritional or monetary purposes. 

He said poultry farming has provided job opportunities to thousands of jobless youths.

According to the DP, everyone can venture into poultry farming as it requires less capital.

He said small businesses hold fuel to local economic spark that allows people to achieve financial liberty and offer diversity in the economy.

Ruto also said that the Jubilee administration is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to harness their maximum potential by coming up with favourable tax regimes.

The auction is a brainchild of a youth leader, Gertrude Chemutai. 

Both national and local political leaders attended the event that saw over Sh11 million was raised.
