According to a video posted by The Star, Maangi said that those supporting Matiang'i's 2022 presidential bid are corrupt individuals who want to avoid being investigated for their corrupt deeds.

Maangi challenged Matiang'i to avoid leaders tainted with corruption if he genuinely needs support from the region.

"What I want to tell my brother Matiang'i, if he wants to be taken seriously he must stop walking with people who are tainted. People who are using his name to protect themselves. People who are afraid they may get arrested anytime," said Maangi.

"Let him walk with the people for the Gusii region to take him seriously. At the right time the chaff will be separated from the wheat," he added.

Late last month two lawmakers from the region defected from DP Ruto's allied movement TangaTanga citing that Matiang' i was being undermined by the movement.

Nyaribari Masaba Member of parliament Ezekiel Machogu and his Bonchari counterpart disclosed that they arrived at the decision since they could not stand hearing their 'brother' Matiang' i get abused.

"I would like to declare here today that I'm no longer in Tanga Tanga after realizing that it's goals are not for the good of the Gusii people and its members were only after abusing Matiang' i who is our brother for no apparent reason," said Machogu.
