Political analyst Dismus Mokua now says that chances are very low that nominated MP Maina Kamanda will be punished over his opposition to McDonald Mariga's candidature for the Kibra parliamentary by-election.
The Jubilee Party has been under pressure to punish the leader, after he on Friday openly endorsed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Imran Okoth for the same seat, therefore contradicting his party's stand.
However, Mokua says that thanks to the fact that Kamanda is allied to party boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, it will be almost impossible for the members calling for his punishment or resignation to have their wish granted.
However, he noted that it would have been very necessary for the same to happen, at the same time stating that Jubilee, just like most of the remaining parties, lacks principals and a stern stand on what needs to happen.
"If Jubilee was a political party it would have summoned Maina Kamanda and told him to resign or be disciplined but it cannot happen because he is allied to one of the big forces," he said on KTN's Inside Politics on Sunday.
Mokua added that the party is very divided on Mariga's candidature, as was demonstrated when he visited the statehouse for Uhuru's endorsement on Wednesday.
He said that thanks to the division of the party into at least three groups, it was only allies of Deputy President William Ruto who attended the function, while the others, who are also opposed to the DP's ideologies, chose to keep off.
"Now there is a Jubilee in government, opposition and Jubilee C and when you see the people who received Mariga at the statehouse all of them are the so-called Jubilee in opposition you did not see Maina Kamanda at that avenue," he added.
Muranga Senator Irungu Kang'ata has also thrown his weight behind Imran, while Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who was initially in support of ODM's Benson Musungu has said that he will keep off the campaigns.
Mariga will battle it out with among others, Imran and Ford Kenya's Khamisi Butichi.
