Overcoming procrastination is a sure step towards achieving your set goals because how long you take to complete a task depends on the urgency.
Discovering what holds you back helps you overcome that challenge which in extreme cases builds up to procrastination.
Therefore, whether you are in gainful employment, or starting out in a new career, these six steps will help you overcome procrastination.
1. Self-discipline
Your ability to handle different tasks depends on self-discipline. Self-discipline gives you flexibility and energy to execute one step at a time.
However, this is an art you have to master for example, the telephone can be a distraction, if you are in the middle of something important.
Answering all incoming calls reduces peak performance and derails getting things done on time. Only pick the most important calls to maximize on your peak working hours.

2. Establish peak performing hours
Take advantage of peak performing hours to accomplish the most important tasks in your diary.
Activities that are not very important can be slotted at a later time when you are done with the most important and when you are at your best.
3. Expand your scope of skills
Your skills horizon expands with the achievement of one goal after the other. This is the point that you further your skills into doing other things because you have already built the determination to achieve more in other areas.
4. Adapt to the surroundings
You are distracted by the surrounding background activities in the environment and you cannot run away or hide from this.
However, you can make the most of it by adapting to the environment you are in and making the best you can from it.
5. Set and stick to short-term schedules
Start by organizing the activities of the day. Set time for emails, reading, listening to motivational audio tapes, or watching videos on preferred topics.
You cannot pull these activities off the ground without setting and sticking to short-time schedules. If you don’t, procrastination takes over.
6. Aim higher
Your business has the potential to improve the profit margin. If you are making Sh50,000 net from the business now, set your goals to double the income in the next three months.
When you clock the first million in three years, raise the bar up higher but it calls for proper organization of your activities and be determined.
