Troubled former Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero will spend the entire weekend in police custody pending his arraignment in court on Monday.
He will be present in court on Monday to answer to graft charges.
The former ODM governor was arrested on Friday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives but was not presented to the court.
The EACC said some of the suspects who will be charged alongside Kidero are yet to be apprehended.
The commission expects to have other suspects arrested during the weekend.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has since okayed Kidero's prosecution.
The former Governor is facing charges of alleged illegal payments of Sh68 Million to a law firm of M/S Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.
Kidero and other suspects are also facing charges of conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, money laundering, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property and dealing with suspect property.
The former governor and other suspects are being held at the Kilimani Police Station.
Kidero's lawyer Nelson Havi has however rubbished the charges pressed against the former Nairobi Governor.
In a briefing with journalists outside EACC offices in Nairobi on Friday, Havi claimed the allegations of illegal payments were made in 2011 when Kidero was not even governor.
He accused EACC and the DPP of allegedly abusing their powers by arresting suspects on Friday's and detaining them over the weekend.
