Shimo la Tewa Member of County Assembly Sammy Ndago Gambo was attacked on March 27 by rowdy youth.
The young men were irritated by his decision to support Kayafungo MCA Alphonse Mawayaa’s motion that proposed the sacking of casual labourers forcing them to attack him outside Kilifi County Government Offices as they felt he has promoted unemployment among the youth.
“Aware that Section 74 of the County Government Act, 2012, provides that the County Public Service Board shall regulate the engagement of persons on contract, volunteer and casual workers, the staff of joint ventures and attachment of interns in its public bodies and offices,” reads part of the motion as reported by Barak-a FM.
The motion in question was approved on March 22 and Kilifi County Chief Officers terminated services of all casual labourers. They stated that appropriate regulations will be put in place before re-engaging affected labourers. However, those serving in the health sector were spared.
Others affected are those seeking internship opportunities, volunteers as well as any person employed on a contract basis.
Ndago has asked Kilifi County Directorate of Criminal Investigations to make sure those involved are arrested.
