Former Subukia MP Koigi Wa Wamwere now says that the union between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange party leader Raila Odinga has a deeper meaning than what meets the eye.
The two have been closer since their March 2018 truce, a union has been, however, questioned by Deputy President William Ruto's camp, citing Raila's alleged insincerity.
Speaking on Wednesday, Koigi said that the truce could give rise to a stronger political bond between the two and their camps in the near future, terming it a political marriage.
He added that Raila seems to have replaced Ruto as Uhuru's preferred partner, likening it to a situation where a second wife topples the older wife and takes over her place.
"Uhuru and Raila are in a marriage within the handshake. They are in a marriage, they are together, Raila is the new wife in Uhuru's homestead (Uhuru na Raila wamefanya ndoa katika handshake. Wamefanya ndoa, wako pamoja, Raila ni mke mpya katika boma la Uhuru)," he said.
The former Nakuru senatorial aspirant was speaking on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Kero Nyeti on Wednesday morning.
However, the two leaders have repeatedly insited that their union is solely based on national cohesion, healing and political calm and has no political dimensions.
