Lidya Achieng and her one-year-old son are being held at the MIOT Center for Children's Cardiac Care in Chennai City after she reportedly paid to pay the Ksh1 million bill.

The bill is for treatment of the boy who has been undergoing treatment and a successful operation to fill a hole in his heart.

Further details indicate that they are from Homa Bay county.

According to the woman's husband Pacifica Onyango, the detention of the two in the Asian country emanates from a last-minute U-turn from an organization that was to clear the bill.

Speaking in Homa Bay on Thursday, he said that HAWI Non-Government Organization had promised to fully sponsor the operation, only to call him later claiming that it cannot pay up.

The social worker in Muhuru Bay told the Citizen Digital that he now fears that the bill will further balloon as the two continue staying in the hospital, which has insisted that the entire bill must be cleared before their release.

He added that the two have been consuming Sh10,000 daily on upkeep, which has made him distraught.
