Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has warned police officers in Garissa County against harassing residents.
Speaking on Wednesday in Garissa during a tour of North Eastern region, Mutyambai said police work does not involve corruption or harassing members of the public.
The National Police Service (NPS) in a post on Twitter said that the IG also urged the officers from the region not to engage in illegal businesses with aliens.
“Police officers should desist from being corrupt and harassing members of the public. Officers should not allow aliens and contraband goods to get into the country. Supporting these two vices is a way of promoting Terrorism operations in the country,” NPS quoted the IG in the tweet.
During the meeting, Mutyambai urged officers in Garissa to work hard and they will be rewarded adding that deployment or promotion of officers will be fair and purely on merit.
The meeting in Garissa County marked the end of IG's two days familiarization tour of North Eastern Region.
The IG held meetings with North Eastern Regional and Garissa County Security teams to discuss security issues that have affected the region.
North-Eastern region has faced serious threats from Al-Shabaab which have led to the loss of lives and affected development in the region.
