As Deputy President William Ruto continues to do his political arithmetics ahead of the 2022 general election, even his fiercest critics agree that he wields too much political influence.
According to Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu, the DP's ever-growing influence stems from his working relationships with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The lawmaker who has emerged as one of the Dr Ruto's harshest critics says that, whereas the President is keen focusing on development agenda within the ruling party, his deputy has been running the political wing of Jubilee Party.
" Ruto has been running the political arm Jubilee as President Uhuru Kenyatta is busy with the implementation of government agenda. Using the network, Ruto has managed to gain clout," the vocal legislator said.
However, Wambugu who is a key member of the Jubilee political camp that is allied to President Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga believes that the DP is using his influence for personal gains.
" His influence is for selfish gain, not for the benefit of the Jubilee party," he added.
Ruto has been crisscrossing the country "launching development projects" and probably popularizing his 2022 presidential bid.
