Director of Public Prosecutions office has denied claims that the Maasai Mara University Vice-Chancellor has been cleared. Some media reports on Thursday indicated that the VC had reported to her work station after four months of absence.
Prof Mary Walingo was implicated in an expose by Citizen TV which dragged her to mass corruption in the institution. But in a tweet, the Noordin Haji led team denied that the scholar has been allowed to report to her work station.
"Contrary to allegations contained in a post by @MutemiWaKiama, Maasai Mara University VC Prof. Mary Walingo has not been cleared of corruption allegations against her. The file is still under review & once ready, DPP will direct appropriately. #Clarification_ODPP," the DPP said.
"We urge the public to treat this information as false and malicious and aimed at interfering and diverting attention and undermining the work of investigative and prosecution agencies. @MutemiWaKiama #Clarification_ODPP," he added.
A ruling by Justice Mumbi Ngugi sidelined public and state officers from accessing their offices after being charged with graft. Prof Walingo had been sent to leave to allow investigators to unravel the multi-million scandal which rocked the institution.
