The arrest of Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino on Friday should not be politicized by Kenyans, a top aide of Raila Odinga has said.
Silas Jakakimba, the private secretary of Mr Odinga, said the matter should not be dragged to the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) debates.
Earlier, lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi had mocked the arrest, suggesting that he should be released for supporting handshake.
"HOW can the POLICE arrest a HANDSHAKE/BBI MP? Babu Owino must be released...immediately @junetmohamed @WehliyeMohamed @ItsMutai," Ahmednasir said, in a tweet.
But Jakakimba faulted Ahmednasir's assertions, warning that the matter should be left to the DCI.
"Snr: Let the Police @DCI_Kenya conduct its investigations on the Babu Owino incident. It is already on it. There's no nexus between #BBIKenya / TheHandshake & the this incident," he said.
Babu Owino was arrested in connection to a shooting incident at a club in Nairobi, with DCI saying that he's in safe custody.
"@DCI_Kenya Detectives based at Kilimani have today arrested Hon Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East following a shooting incident at B Club located along Galana Road within Kilimani. The MP is in lawful custody as further investigations continue," DCI tweeted.
