Getare village was left in horror when a form three male student attempted to kill himself after breaking up with his girlfriend. The student, Joseph Omwancha, had hanged himself at his small house before being rescued in time by his uncle and sister.
"His little sister was taking lunch to him at his house since we believed he was sick. Upon reaching the house she met the terrible scene and that is when she ran back and called me," Richard Muga, the uncle explained.
According to one of Omwancha's close friend who sought anonymity, the attempted suicide was as a result of a heartbreak.
"They had been dating for three months. A few days ago Omwancha realised that his girlfriend was cheating on him. He went ahead and confront her and instead of apologising, the lady demanded a breakup," the friend revealed.
"I am happy that my son is okay. Thank God nothing happened to him. I don't know and I can't imagine what I would have done if he died," Rael Nyathera, Omwancha's mother, stated amidst tears.
Omwancha was lucky to be rescued in time before it was too late, however, the uncle said that he will still take him for guiding and counseling sessions.
