Kibwezi East Member of Parliament Jessica Mbalu has slammed candidates eyeing her seat in the upcoming 2022 polls.
Mbalu while addressing residents in Thange on Thursday said it's early for politicians to declare their interests in 2022 politics, noting that leaders should instead deliver their promises to the electorates.
The Wiper lawmaker said she has not made a public declaration that she won't defend her seat come 2022, adding that some leaders in the area should stop making decisions for her.
"There are some people who have been elected and a year and a half later they're here telling people about their 2022 bid. They haven't even worked for the electorates and they are thinking about 2022," said Mbalu.
"Who told you I'm leaving the parliamentary seat. I can even stay here for forty years it's not up to you to choose for me what seat I should seek next yet you were chosen yesterday," she added.
She told residents that any leader declaring their 2022 interests now has failed in his or her work.
She noted that the next general elections are three years away, meaning a lot still needs to be done.
Mbalu's comments come just a week after Ivingoni/ Nzambani Ward MCA Harrison Mutie declared interest in the Kibwezi East seat.
