A section of residents of Birongo area in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County have piled more pressure on Interior Cabinet secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to sack rogue police officers attached to Birongo police station.
Led by Thomas Kaunda, the residents while speaking on Saturday at Birongo shopping centre protested that police officers have been collecting bribes from poor locals.
"Birongo police officers have turned the police station to be an extortion area for the money. Crime suspects taken to the station are released unconditionally once the officers get a bribe. Matiang'i need to move with speed because the officers have prioritized money," claimed Kaunda who insisted that no criminal makes it to court if he or she passes through the station.
"All suspects taken to the police station won't be taken to court because at the end of it the officers will demand bribes. We will not continue condoning the rogue officers," he added.
Edwin Kerage, another local threatened that if CS Matiang'i won't sack the officers or transfer them before May 1st, residents will go on a rampage.
"We will protest to push Matiang'i to remove the rogue officers. We want security beefed up not officers demanding bribes and release criminals," said Kerage.
