The MP says ODM leadership has not endorsed the motion by Siaya Senator James Orengo to have Ruto impeached and she noted that the motion is purely sponsored by Orengo as an individual.

"I sit in the highest decision making organ of ODM and we have not discussed or approved any motion to have Deputy President impeached," the Homa Bay Woman Rep said during an interview on Citizen TV's Day Break Show on Tuesday.

According to Wanga, it is wrong for a section of the media to associate the impeachment motion to the Orange Party.

Wanga, however, said that Orengo is within his constitutional rights to sponsor the motion to have DP Ruto impeached.

"Orengo is free to bring the motion to the House so long as it meets the grounds required," she said.

The Homa Bay woman rep further rubbished claims that ODM is out to scuttle the ruling Jubilee Party. She termed the claims by a section of DP Ruto's allies as malicious and meant to divide the country ahead of the 2022 general election.

Senator Orengo has initiated a motion to impeach Deputy President on grounds that he is allegedly hindering the fight against graft and claimed that he has strong grounds to have Ruto sent home.

Orengo will need the support of two-thirds of MPs and Senators' support for his motion to sail through.

It is not the first time Orengo is initiating an impeachment motion against an executive office holder.

In 1998, Orengo who was then Ugenya MP initiated a motion to impeach retired President Daniel Arap Moi.

The motion flopped as it failed to garner the two-thirds support.
