The Ukambani political kingpin has been severally quoted saying that 2022 will be his time to ascend to power.

The Wiper leader said his party will work with like-minded politicians in 2022.

Kalonzo's 2022 presidential bid, however,  hangs in balance if the recent political happenings in Ukambani is anything to go by.

The former Vice President is staring at a rebellion in his home turf as some of his close allies show signs of dumping him.

On Tuesday, Kalonzo chaired a closed-door meeting with Wiper politicians to deliberate on issues facing the political outfit.

The Wiper leader hosted top politicians at his Yatta farm in Machakos County for a 'goat eating' meeting.

Top politicians across the political divide attended the annual consultative meeting.

Former Jubilee party chairman David Murathe's presence at the meeting has triggered debate on Kalonzo's plans ahead of 2022 polls.

Murathe is Deputy President William Ruto's critic, he has threatened to block the latter's presidential ambition at the Supreme Court.

He created a political storm when he asked Ruto to retire alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Murathe's presence at the 'goat eating' meeting could be a political sign ahead of 2022 polls.

"Murathe is a strategist and political broker, his presence at Kalonzo's meeting on Tuesday cannot be ignored," Ngure said.

Ngure argued that the Wiper leader is among presidential candidates who electorates from Mt. Kenya region could easily support in 2022 general election.

He said Kalonzo could be planning to reach out to President Uhuru Kenyatta for endorsement through Murathe.
