Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino has been granted a cash bail of Sh10 million in his attempted murder case.
The law maker has this Monday afternoon been freed on a cash bail and he will be released after paying first installment Sh2.5 million, and clear the rest in the next four months.
Justice Andayi said the cash bail will be used to clear the victim's hospital bill and the remaining amount will serve as his bail.
He has also been given strict orders not to consume alcohol until his case is completed.
Babu's case had earlier today adjourned by Justice Francis Andayi after his supporters confronted a state lawyer.
Babu was arrested few days ago after he was allegedly linked to the shooting incident in a night club in Nairobi, where the club's DJ, Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve was shot and seriously injured.
The DJ is still at the hospital where he is recovering from bullet injuries on his neck.
The prosecutor told the court that he was still in pain and in fear of his life.
“I am tired, I am in pain and am traumatised. I don’t want to talk and I cannot fathom anything. I have not slept for days because I am scared of my life and future,” DJ Evolve said, as quoted in the bail assessment report by Citizen
The victim's family had earlier requested the court to deny Babu the bail. They argued that since the law maker is powerful, he may use his powers to interfere with the case involving their loved one.
