In a post on Twitter, the renowned academician contended that the problems around drought in the country were being compounded by poor planning in terms of production, storage, distribution and marketing.

He also pinned down the drought issues to corruption and institutional failures

"PERENNIAL DROUGHTS AND FAMINES: Very Predictable. The REAL issue is not about availability, it is one of UNPLANNED PRODUCTION, STORAGE, DISTRIBUTION, MARKETING and more importantly CORRUPTION. In short, INSTITUTIONAL failures!" his tweet read.

Droughts continue to be a big challenge in Kenya especially in the northern and northeastern parts of the country.

In February, the government of Kenya declared a national drought emergency after 23 out of the 47 counties in the country were hit by drought.

This year's drought situation was the worst in 38 years, putting over half a million children at risk of malnutrition.

Prominent personalities such as controversial artiste Akothee and flamboyant Nairobi county boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko sent lorries of food to affected areas in the country.

Deputy President William Ruto early this year hit out at the media over what he called overblowing the drought situation in the country in spite of disturbing pictures of malnourished people.
