Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has hired renowned lawyer Cliff Ombeta, to represent him after he was arrested over allegations of shooting a man at a club in Nairobi.
Speaking on Friday moments after Babu's arrest, Ombeta said Owino reacted reflexively to what he believed was a threat to his life.
He added that the lawmaker was apprehensive that his life was in danger, hence the use of his weapon.
"Babu has been increasing his security because he has been apprehensive about his life for some time which is understandable," Ombeta told journalists.
The renowned lawyer further noted that the outspoken MP took upon himself to transport the injured man to Nairobi Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has said Babu will be charged with attempted murder.
“We will charge him with attempted murder. It is apparent that he wanted to kill the man,” Kinoti said as quoted by Nation.
