Amid fallout claims within the ruling Jubilee Party with doubts lingering whether President Uhuru Kenyatta will support his deputy William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid, a key ally of the DP has vowed to keep the covenant and support his State House ambition.

While responding to the Standard newspaper Thursday headline "Outsider in Government" in reference to perceived sidelining of Dr Ruto in the running of government, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said that she will keep her word and support the DP's Presidential bid come the next election.

"I am keeping the covenant. My word is my bound. Kumi; kumi! Liwe liwalo (come what may)," she said on Thursday.

The Senator's statement could be informed by claims that during President Kenyatta's recent Cabinet reshuffle that saw former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri fired, Dr Ruto was not consulted.

Further, the move to drop Kiunjuri is seen by many as an attempt to "cut the DP to size" ahead of the 2022 poll.
