President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged security apparatus in the country to be on the offensive against terrorists and their sympathisers.

Speaking on Friday at State House Mombasa, the Head of State ordered the country's security agencies to embark on operations to flash out those involved in terror activities.

"First security officers are to mount operations to flash out terrorist operatives and all sleeper cells in our midst especially in the North Eastern and Coastal regions," he said in his address. 

The order comes after a number of terror attacks have been staged on Kenyan soil by suspected Al-Shabaab militia.

At the Coast, Al-Shabaab militia attacked Lamu-bound buses and a military base shared by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the United States of America (USA) forces.

A number of attacks have also been reported in North Eastern, with the latest being attack of a primary school in Garissa.

President Kenyatta has in the past said Kenya will not heed to the demands of Al-Shabaab, adding that Kenyan forces will remain in Somalia until peace is achieved.

Kenyan forces are fighting alongside AMISOM forces in Somalia, and have been able to subject the terrorist group to significant military reversals.

Thanks to the military effort, Al-Shabaab's footprint in Somalia and the larger East African region has been significantly reduced.
