A section of leaders from the Ukambani counties have hinted at establishing a regional bank.
Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) said the bank will help boost the three counties' economic development.
The trio discussed the bank's establishment when they met in Kitui County on Tuesday.
"We discussed the process of establishing our own regional bank that will understand our people, our climate and support their economic activities." Mutua posted on his Facebook page.
Mutua said the Kambaland has all basic factors and resources required for food production.
"Our region has all the basic factors required for production including land, capital, labor and technology and as SEKEB, we will be keen to explore these factors for the benefit of our people," Mutua said.
He said the forum is not politically influenced hence all elected leaders should join hands to help kick off poverty in the region.
"This economic forum is not political, and it's main objective is to alleviate poverty in Ukambani. I therefore call on all politicians to embrace this ideology that will seek to ensure that the entire community prospers both locally and internationally," he added.
