President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to sack Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS)  Rashid Echesa is a big blow to Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid, a political analyst has said.

Peter Ngure, a Kiambu based analyst says that Echesa’s sacking is likely to hurt DP Ruto’s 2022 bid in Western Kenya.

According to the analyst, Echesa has been DP Ruto’s point man in the Western bloc.

He argues that the DP Ruto's popularity in Western is likely to go down in the coming days.

“Echesa’s sacking will have an effect on DP Ruto’s 2022 game plan in Western bloc,” he said in an interview on Friday.

The analyst observed that Echesa has been vocal and has openly endorsed DP Ruto’s presidential candidature in 2022 polls.

Ngure now says that DP Ruto must strategize to remain active in Western bloc ahead of 2022 general election.

Moses Masibo, a Political Science student at a local university, says that  Echesa’s sacking could be a blessing to DP Ruto ahead of 2022 polls.

The student observes that Echesa is a mobilizer and is likely to continue marketing DP Ruto’s 2022 presidency in Western Kenya since he is out of the Cabinet.

 “I don’t think Echesa’s sacking will cripple DP Ruto’s popularity in Western Kenya,” he said in an interview on Friday.

Echesa was sacked through an Executive Order.

Ambassador Amina Mohamed who has been moved from the Education docket now takes over the Sports Ministry.

Kenya National Examination Council (KENC) chairperson professor George Magoha has been nominated to take over the Education docket.
