The lawmakers, who had attended the burial ceremony of Pastor Shem Ngoko at Miriri in Kitutu Masaba Constituency, had to request the Nyamira SDA Church Executive Secretary Dr Thomas Nyakundi for an opportunity just to mention their names.

The clergyman had allowed a number of judges to speak to the mourners, but not politicians.

Senator Eric Okong'o, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi, and former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire reached out to the servant of God just to mention their names during the funeral.

Other high profile guests who were present at the event include;  Chief Justice David Maraga, Governor John Nyagarama, former West Mugirango MP Benson Kegoro, Bungoma High Court Judge Stephen Riechi, and retired Justice Samuel Bosire.

The burial committee had allowed the governor to speak on behalf of all politicians present during the event, but the MPs decided to make a special request to the pastor for some time to introduce themselves to the voters.

Nyakundi said that the lawmakers were only allowed to the lineup when posting for a photo and nothing else.

The incident comes at a time when Kenyans have been asking leaders not to engage in politics when they attend events such as burial.

Politicians have been taking advantage of burials as a platform to show their might. Some of them have engaged in heated debates in the presence of grieving families without caring.
