Orange Democratic Movement party Director of Elections Junet Mohamed has sensationally claimed that one of NASA affiliate candidate in Kibra is in talks with Deputy President William Ruto.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has scheduled November 7th for the Kibra by-election. On Monday, IEBC said that 118,658 voters will participate in next week's polls.
In a tweet on Monday, Mr Mohamed, who also doubles as Suna East MP, claimed that Dr Ruto was in final talks with the candidate's party over the amount of money to be paid.
According to him, should the agreement go through, the candidate will endorse Jubilee aspirant McDonald Mariga, who is being backed by Ruto.
"The DP is negotiating with one of the NASA affiliate parties to step down their candidate For Mariga . The amount demanded is huge and hence the negotiations taking a bit long.. we shall update Kenyans when the deal is done," he claimed.
Besides ODM's Imran Okoth, Eliud Owalo of Amani National Congress and Eng Ramadhan Khamisi of Ford Kenya candidates in NASA affiliate parties.
The four top candidates have intensified campaigns in the constituency, a move that has seen their party leaders physically participating.
While addressing Kibra residents on Sunday, the Ruto said the time was ripe for the people of Kibra to join Jubilee government and free themselves from the "bondage of the opposition.
"He said Mariga will bring transformation and development in the area."Kibra will never remain a hotbed of violence, a slum, a place synonymous with poverty. We will never be lied to again," he said.
Mr Owalo, a former aide to Raila Odinga, has often been branded a 'Ruto project' by ODM team. However, he denies the claims, accusing ODM of witch-hunt.
