The official, who is a policy advisor attached to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining, reportedly attempted to solicit for a bribe of Sh500,000 before he was busted and arrested.

The man, who was later identified as Joshua Lonyaman Angelei, wanted to use underhand tactics to con a businessperson before his deal went sour.

The DCI reported that the man demanded half a million shillings from In-depth Mining Limited to help it in fast-tracking the issuance of a mining permit. The police swung into action after they were informed of his scheme.

The officers arrested the man at the Nakumatt Junction on Ngong Road where he had gone to receive a down payment of Sh100,000 before he completes the deal.

He had asked the mining company to pay the amount in terms of US dollars. The DCI said that the man was given marked and serialized dollars before he was traced.

“A trap was laid whereby the marked and serialised US Dollars was handed to him by the Agent of the Mining company. He (Lonyaman) received the money and pocketed them on the right side of his coat,” said the DCI, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

He is currently being held  Parklands Police Station pending hearing and determination of his case.
