President Uhuru Kenyatta received the report last week and politicians are divided on whether or not to subject it for a referendum.

City lawyer Donald Kipkorir now accuses CS Kiunjuri of misleading his Mt Kenya team, arguing that he should concentrate on turning fortunes in his ministry.

Kipkorir wonders why the Mt Kenya leaders could cry foul about the state of agriculture which the same minister serves.

"Section of Mount Kenya MPs are arguing that money intended for BBI Referendum should be used to revive collapsed Agriculture Sector. And Chairing them & angling for Post 2022 DP Position is the Minister presiding over the collapse of the Sector .. Stupidity is abundant in Kenya," he tweeted.

In a meeting chaired by Kiunjuri on Saturday, a section of Mt Kenya MPs demanded that the BBI recommendations be subjected to Parliamentary approval.

According to them, the money for the referendum should be diverted to the ailing tea and coffee sectors especially in Mt Kenya.

"Parliament is the sole body constitutionally mandated to pass laws. We commit ourselves to drive legal work in Parliament moving forward," part of the statement read by Embu senator Njeru Ndwiga read as quoted by Star.

The group said Kenyans are already overburdened and national resources should be spared from a national referendum.

“We must avoid a contentions, divisive national process. We must avoid a national process that works against the primary objective of BBI- the unity of our country,” the statement said.
