Members of Parliament have been challenged to at least use 2% of the NG-CDF fund to nurture sporting talents among youths in the country.
Njoro businessman Kamau Kuria said majority of the legislators have failed to factor youth empowerment in their plans, despite it being a provision in the law.
Speaking in Njoro town when he hosted a Jamhuri Day pool table tournament as a platform to also sensitise the youths on the negative effects of drugs and substance abuse, Kuria said it is high time politicians start thinking on how to empower youths in the country.
The tournament was under the theme ‘Make Njoro a drug-free zone’.
According to Kuria, Kenyan youths are being messed up in drugs and substance abuse, despite many government initiatives in place.
“We are losing many youths due to drugs and substance abuse. So what we need is just ideas and then resources for instance the NG-CDF so that we can shape the lives of our young people,” he said.
He noted that even with the BBI report out, there is need for sober youths free from drugs, so that they can read and understand it for a better Kenya in future.
“We need sober minds of our young generation and this can be achieved if we create platforms” said Kuria.
The campaign has already attracted several partners among them Supersport who will be sponsoring a sporting tournament in April 2020.
