Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday morning dispatched his team to spruce up city statues after his Machakos Counterpart Dr. Alfred Mutua blasted him.
Mutua had promised to renovate the statues of Dedan Kimathi and Tom Mboya after he visited them.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said that he was shocked to see the pathetic state of the statues while the governor is in office.
He reminded the county government of Nairobi that President Uhuru Kenyatta has no time to attend to the statues.
"Surely, we do not expect President Uhuru Kenyatta to personally visit, clean and repair Tom Mboya‘s or Dedan Kimathi’s statues. His people are letting him down and heads should roll. This is an embarrassment to President Uhuru and his Government," he said in his address to the crowd at the Tom Mboya Statue.
He also questioned why leaders were busy traversing the country when they cannot initiate development in their home counties in an apparent reference to the Sonko.
Mutua, who has hinted at contesting for the nation’s top seat in 2022, said that Kenyans need better leadership in a bid to realise the goals of development as enshrined in Vision 2030.
