Led by Operation Fagia Bunge Secretariat head Magandi Kalinga, the residents said operation aims to have the county government suspended or fully dissolved and MCAs sent home.

The residents accused Mombasa MCAs of dragging behind development projects in the county, saying the MCAs are also threatening performing CeCs with impeachment sermons when they are denied their wishes.

Addressing the press at Treasury Grounds, Wednesday, the petitioners said the MCAs take home Ksh140,000 each, as rent for their ward offices yet some areas such as Nyali, Changamwe, and Mtongwe do not have MCA offices.

They said the MCAs have been opposing important development projects in the county, dragging behind Governor Ali Hassan Joho's plans to change lives of Mombasa residents.

While calling for the immediate dissolution of the county assembly, the residents said a majority of the MCAs are also at loggerheads with the sub-county administration through interfering of the performance and delivering of duties by the administration.

They asked Governor Joho to immediately heed to their call and ensure the MCAs are sent home in order for Mombasa residents to realise the importance of devolution.

"Majority of the MCA, if not all, have been frustrating this effort through issuing petty sermons and creation of impeachment of executive members who do not heed to their calls. As if that is not enough, MCAs are also at loggerheads with the sub-county administration through interfering of the performance and delivering of duties by the administration. As residents, we have witnessed immense growth and transformation in the transport and infrastructure sector in this tourism county," read press report in part.
