Kibwana who has several times been voted among the best performing county bosses in terms of development and public participation initiatives is yet to endorse or hint on who he would want to succeed him as governor in 2022.

As the 2022 general election clock ticks quickly, all eyes are on who is fit to succeed governor Kibwana and continue his development legacy.

Among top and vocal politicians said to be eyeing to take over from Kibwana in 2022 is Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.

Mutula succeeded his later father, Mutula Kilonzo, who died months after the 2013 general election is seen by many as the perfect politician to take over from Kibwana.

A law scholar, Mutula has managed to build a reputation championing for equality, inclusivity and respect for human rights and could bank on it to seek for votes should he decide to contest.

Former Kilome MP and business tycoon Harun Mwau could also be among politicians likely to bid for the Makueni gubernatorial seat in the forthcoming general election.

Mwau, unsuccessfully, contested the seat in the 2013 general election but political pundits argue that the veteran politician could make another attempt in 2022.

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo is also among politicians who could take over from governor Kibwana in 2022. A lawyer by profession, Maanzo is serving his second term and is among vocal politicians in the county.

Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau has already declared her interest to succeed her boss in the 2022 general election. Mwau argues that she had all it takes to be the next Makueni governor.

Governor Kibwana has been quoted saying that he will not allow a person who has no development track record to succeed him in 2022.

It will be interesting to see how the Makueni gubernatorial election shapes up ahead of the 2022 polls.
