Two Members of Parliament allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have urged the Homa Bay County Assembly to reject the Punguza Mizigo bill.
Under the leadership of Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot, the bill which is currently before the county assemblies seeks to among others, slash elective representation by over a half.
However, speaking in Rangwe on Saturday, Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma and his Kabondo Kasipul counterpart Eve Obara urged area ward representatives to shoot the bill down when presented before them.
Kaluma warned that if passed, the bill will bring forth a reorganization of borders, which could see the 6-constituency county reduced into only two sub counties.
He warned that the bill, which also seeks to abolish some positions, including, the Deputy Governor and Woman Representatives, will also tamper with the number of representation.
The lawmaker told the MCAs to await proposals of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), with Obara joining him in urging Kenyans to await directions from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the BBI founders.
Kaluma, a close ally of Raila lashed out at those criticizing the BBI, noting that they refused to participate in its taskforce sittings, and therefore lack the moral authority to speak about it.
He claimed that they "declined to give their views during the time the team was moving across the country to collect public views before submitting their report."
This was in apparent reference to forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto who have opposed the BBI and its said looming referendum proposal.
They have predicted that that the BBI, through the BBI taskforce, will propose the expansion of government, which they say is a plot to accommodate poll losers in government.
