Rift Valley council of elders have demanded answers on President Uhuru Kenyatta over the political developments in his Jubilee party.
The elders held a three-hour meeting at a Nakuru hotel on Wednesday after which they addressed the media and decried the differences within the Jubilee party.
Led by their patron Gilbert Kabage, the elders said all the issues arising in Jubilee are being caused by fears that Uhuru is about to shortchange his deputy William Ruto in the succession politics.
They told the President to come out clearly and state his position to heal Jubilee.
“We challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta to come out clear and say whether he still supports Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. Does he still support him or has he changed his mind?” Kabage said.
The council's secretary general Peter Charagu said Uhuru's silence has been construed to mean that he is backing down on his word yet the DP has stood with him even when the court was about to 'snatch away his victory in 2017'.
The elders said many Jubilee supporters feel Uhuru is now more close to opposition leader Raila Odinga than his deputy.
“To calm the storm that threatens to tear apart the Jubilee Party, we request the President to give details of the ‘handshake’ between him and the former prime minister,”
