If there is one county in Central Kenya that Deputy President William Ruto has visited more than any other since January, then it is Kiambu.

The last time the DP was in the county was on August 30th where he presided a fundraiser at Kirenga Girls High School, Kimende before he launched multiple development projects.

Kiambu, as it may look, is the one County he is banking on to harvest votes in Central Kenya, a region where President Uhuru comes from.

The county to the DP looks lucrative because presently more of Central Kenya's elected leaders who are in support of his 2022 presidential bid come from the county which also borders Nairobi, the country's capital.

Among leaders who have openly declared their support for the DP in Kiambu include Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Woman Representative Muthoni Wa Muchomba, Senator Kimani Wamatangi as well as MPs Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu) and Moses Kuria (Gatundu South). Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura is also in his camp.

This is in sharp contrast with counties like Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi where the DP has never received the kind of reception he usually gets whenever he goes to Kiambu.

From the counties of Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi, combined, the only notable figures who have expressly supported the DP's 2022 State House bid include Senator Kindiki Kithure (Tharaka Nithi), MP Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) and Senator Irungu Kang'ata (Murang'a).

The DP's focus on Kiambu is obviously because the county has the highest number of registered voters in the region (standing at over 2 million) that is known for its block voting patterns.

Kiambu's decision to vote as a block for the DP will be a big win for the DP against whoever will be challenging him for the country's top seat.
