The National Hospital Insurance Fund is a corporation mandated to provide health insurance to Kenyans.
Members contribute to their NHIF accounts by making monthly payments which are safeguarded by the government but released when the member if faced with a medical challenge and his/her contributions will help them bounce back to normal lives.
Kenyans with NHIF cards can access services in more than eight thousand hospitals countrywide with more than sixty branches all over the country.

You can do this by;
1. Via the website using an internet-enabled device, go to the official NHIF website, choose the self-service portal, if you are visiting the website for the first time, you will be required to sign up. To be able to do this successfully, you need to have your NHIF number, a valid email address and a day working telephone number.
Once done with signing up, login in with the password you have created, fill in your personal details and proceed to get your account's status.
2. Using your mobile phone
To get your NHIF status via the phone, compose a message starting with your ID number and send to 21101. You will get an immediate answer with your account details and status. This only costs Sh10.
