Kibra parliamentary hopeful McDonald Mariga is rich and cannot therefore be Deputy President (DP) William Ruto's political project, political analyst Ambrose Weda has said.
This comes at a time when the former international soccer player is being seen as a person sent to complicate the race for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the traditionally ODM zone.
However, the High Court advocate has rubbished the claim on grounds that the former Inter Milan midfielder is equally rich, and cannot be a project of the DP.
"He too has deep pockets. The project tag is a weapon being used against him from the other side," he said on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation on Wednesday morning.
However, Weda said while the seat is ODM's to lose, it will give the ex-player the exposure he needs for future polls.
Weda, also a former SONY sugar board chair added that if Mariga is close to the DP as is being said, he stands a chance of making more progress politically, but will only do so in 2022.
"McDonald Mariga is a candidate like the others, if he is aligned to the DP its a futuristic strategy for 2022. The seat is ODM's to lose," he added.
Mariga has since denied being anyone's project, and is expected to face off with Amani National Congress (ANC) party's Eliud Owalo, and candidates from other parties.
