Narok Deputy Governor Evelyn Aruasa has weighed in on the ongoing Mau Forest eviction saga.
Speaking to members of the press on Wednesday, Aruasa called for dialogue, saying that arresting leaders will not help resolve outstanding issues.
"These issues will not be solved by court processes, these issues will only be solved by leaders sitting around the table and talking and that is the message I have brought here as leaders," she said in a video shared on Citizen TV's YouTube. (0:13-0:23)
This comes a day after Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng'eno and two MCAs were arrested on Tuesday by law enforcement officers for allegedly trying to interfere with the ongoing evictions.
Tensions have been mounting in the Mau area in the wake of state order for those living in the area to leave or risk being evicted.
A section of Rift Valley leaders has railed against the evictions, terming them arbitrary.
About 60,000 families are said to be living the forest.
Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen warned that going ahead with the eviction plan would trigger a humanitarian catastrophe.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko was summoned by the environment parliamentary committee to answer questions around the Mau saga.
The Environment Ministry has framed the eviction as an urgent conservation issue with those against the plan framing it in humanitarian terms.
