The Solicitor General Kenedy Ogeto has asked the parliament and treasury to consider allocating more funds for the Eldoret Office of the Attorney General.
This is in what Ogeto says will enable the office to effectively perform its functions.
Addressing the press in Eldoret on Wednesday, Ogeto expressed concerns that the Eldoret office which serves 61 courts in the North Rift region has only 4 state counsels.
“It has been hard for the state counsels to perform their duties effectively due to financial constraints," he said.
“For the Eldoret office to be effective, we need to have at least 15 state counsels to handle over 3,000 cases at ease and clients to be represented effectively,” added the Solicitor General.
Ogeto also revealed that the Eldoret office has only one vehicle, a situation that has forced state counsels in the region to use matatus as their mean of public transport.
On reasons as to why cases y state counsels fail, Ogeto said it was as a result of lack of proper preparations and research which has been occasioned by a shortage of funds.
He also faulted the Treasury for allocating the Office of the Attorney General Sh5 billion in the 2018/19 budget against their proposed Sh11 billion.
