MPs are under pressure to pass the Gender Bill that would pave way for nomination of more women to the house in compliance to the constitution.

And Mr Ngunyi says should MPs fail to pass the bill, Maraga could step in and dissolve the house in compliance with article 261.

"If the GENDER BILL does not pass, Article 261 of the constitution gives POWERS to Maraga to DISSOLVE Parliament. Given his HISTORY, Maraga WILL DISSOLVE Parliament. MPs should be AFRAID. Very AFRAID," he wrote.

Before Monday's second reading of the bill sponsored by Majority Leader Aden Duale, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged MPs to back the law, adding that it will only stand for a while.

"Let us support the bill. It's important for now. Supporting it means we adhere to the constitution. This is only for a while," he said, hinting to a possible referendum.

A section of MPs led by Kimilili's Didmas  Barasa have already opposed the bill on grounds that it will promote impunity.
