Details have emerged that Mt Kenya MPs have been told to stop accompanying Deputy President William Ruto during his trips across the country which have been christened as Kutangatanga.
An MP privy to the riot act read to the MPs said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy agreed to have MPs, especially those from Mt Kenya, from campaigning for his 2022 bid to avoid sowing seeds of discord in the vote-rich region.
Rift Valley MPs who earlier held a closed-door meeting to put their house in order have also reportedly been told to avoid ‘provoking’ their Mt Kenya counterparts in the 2022 debate.
“We were told to be cautious lest we fall for their trap which is to start disagreements and have a reason to dump the DP,” an MP told this writer.
Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria and his Nakuru Town West counterpart Samuel Arama have however vowed to continue supporting the DP.
“We made a political pact with Ruto and we must honour it. Ruto stood firmly with President Kenyatta when things were thick on our side, we cannot forget this,” Gikaria said.
On Saturday, the order given to Mt Kenya MPs was clear as none accompanied Ruto to his Coast trip.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa, Moses Kuria of Gatundu South, Ndindi Nyoro among others who had become constant figures in Ruto rallies were conspicuously missing.
