The first-ever Senate sitting out of the country's headquarters, Nairobi is set to be held in Uasin Gishu county beginning Monday.
Dubbed 'Senate Mashinani', the sitting will see all the 67 Senators pitch camp in the county's capital Eldoret.
This historical event will definitely come with positive and negative impact to the town that is considered one of the fastest growing in the country.
Here is what the coming of the Senators to Eldoret will lead to;
Increased number of twilight girls
With the presence of the Senators and other support staff attached the Senate, twilight girls around the North Rift see them as potential customers.
There are already reports of an influx of the girls in town as they seek to make a killing out of the historical event. Some have even decided to go cashless for the safety of themselves and their customers.
“We have decided to go cashless. When you have cash in your hand you can easily be attacked and robbed of everything you have worked for. The Mpesa is safe,” said one of these ladies who identified herself to be Peris Nduta.
Price increase of goods and services
It will be a booming business for traders in Eldoret town especially those in the hotel industry. It is many thanks to an influx of visitors. However, due to the 'Senate Mashinani', traders and hotel owners are likely to hike prices for their goods and services as demand is et to shoot up.
The Senators will be in Eldoret for a whole week where they will among other things hold their normal plenary sessions, committee meetings and hold public forums.
