Up to 2017President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession plan was very clear, it was unwavering and indisputable but after the famous March 9th handshake, the political ball has been rolled and no one is sure who the ball is targeting.

"Wangoje miaka kumi Uhuru amalize yake, wangoje miaka ingine kumi Ruto amalize yake..." said Kenyatta in one of his speeches. His plans to be succeeded by his Deputy William Ruto was well known.

Mistrust and suspicion came in immediately after the handshake. Politicians allied to the DP were strongly against it. They saw it as jeopardizing Ruto's bid for the presidency in 2022.

They have played their cards in two ways; pretending to support the handshake but on the other hand, fighting it. They have severally accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of dividing Jubilee.

"...Huyu mtu mchoro yake tunajua, atakoroga Jubilee na mwisho wa maneno hatamalizia hapo..." one of the allies to the DP, Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waitutu, said in a podium that DP was present

Lately, leaders from the Rift Valley have shifted their attacks from Odinga to President Kenyatta.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a close ally to Dp Ruto accused the president of being corrupt and that he was not ready to report him to DCI because the DCI consisted of people known to him.

Unapologetic Sudi even dared the president that if he preferred supporting Raila to Ruto then he should announce publicly.

Nandi governor, Stephen Sang and Caleb Kositany, MP Soy, asked the president not to terrorize the projects in the Rift Valley because of one person, William Ruto. Similar statements were echoed by MPs from Elgeyo Marakwet after the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

This strategy of using his allies to fight Uhuru and Raila may lead to Jubilee's divorce. Divorcing Ruto from Jubilee will weaken his political career. Uhuru is the current Mt. Kenya kingpin and in case he declares that he no longer needs DP Ruto, automatically, the region will support him to fight Ruto. This is very risky for Ruto's presidential ambitions.
